Pakistan is called the land of fast bowlers due to the quality of bowlers it has produced over the years. The current lot of bowlers is doing a tremendous job, even in the absence of experienced bowlers like Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Abbas, and their numbers speak for themselves.
Pakistan’s pace battery that created ripples in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup, hasn’t achieved any less in the red-ball format. In the ongoing Chittagong Test match against Bangladesh, Pakistani pacers created a unique record by taking 100 Test wickets in a calendar year.

The 100-wicket mark was achieved when fast-bowler Hasan Ali bamboozled senior Bangladeshi batter Mushfiqur Raheem in their second innings on Day 4 of the first Test.
Out of 100, the most number of wickets have been picked up by the leader of the pack, Shaheen Shah Afridi (42), and his second in command, Hasan Ali (39).

The duo has been in a neck and neck competition for wickets this year, with Shaheen taking a slight advantage thanks to a five-for in the second innings of Bangladesh.

The other 19 scalps are shared by Naseem Shah, Tabish Khan, Mohammad Abbass, and Faheem Ashraf.
This is the first time in the country’s Test history that the feat has been achieved. 1993 was the last time when the Pakistani fast-bowling department, featuring the likes Waqar Younis (55) and Wasim Akram (28) had picked up 99 wickets in a calendar year.
