England Announce Squad for T20 World Cup 2021

England Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup that is set to begin from October 17 in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The pace-heavy squad has only one full-time spinner, Aadil Rasheed, for the spin-friendly pitches of the UAE, followed by two spin all-rounders, Moeen Ali Ali and Liam Livingston.

World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan will lead the team into the mega event with Ali as his deputy.

According to the ECB website, fast bowler Tymal Mills has been named into the 15-member squad, thanks to his impressive run in the Vitality T20 Blast, where he has helped Sussex reach Finals Day at Edgbaston later this month. He has been out of international cricket since February 2017.

He was also very handy in The Hundred, helping his side Southern Brave lift the trophy in the event’s first edition.

All-rounder Ben Stokes has not been drafted in the squad as he has taken an indefinite break from the cricket to prioritize his mental wellbeing.

England have until October 10 to finalize their squad ahead of the tournament.

Here is England’s T20 World Cup Squad

England Head Coach, Chris Silverwood, was content with the squad and said that his side has the ability to win any competitive tournament.

“We are excited about the prospect of challenging to win the ICC T20 World Cup. I believe we have selected a squad that covers all bases and has the depth to be successful in what is expected to be a very competitive tournament featuring the best players in the world.”

Upon recall of Tymal Mills, he said:

“Tymal Mills deserves his inclusion and has demonstrated over the past couple of years, but particularly this summer that he has all skills to succeed at this level. His exceptional pace is a standout, and the way he has spearheaded Sussex and Southern Brave’s respective attacks in the short-form game has shown that he relishes the pressures of the big stage.

“He will add variety to our bowling unit, and we can’t wait to see him play in a major international tournament.”

Ahead of the main event, the England cricket team is scheduled to play four warm-up matches including a two-match T20I series against Pakistan in October Both T20Is will take place at the Rawalpindi International Stadium on October 14 and 15.
